Dipri, also known as the 'blood festival', is a traditional festival held by the Abidji people, who are part of the Akan ethnic group, commemorating the sacrifice made by an ancestor to save them from famine. During the celebration some participants, supposedly led by the spirits, slash themselves with a knife or insert blades into their skin, and afterwards are healed with poultices of raw eggs and herbs. Dipri is also characterized by ritual animal sacrifices. EPA-EFE/LEGNAN KOULA
