Robert Ghement
Robert Ghement was born in 1968, in Romania's Dobrogea province. He was inspired to take up photojournalism studies in the course of the uprising against Nicolae Ceausescu. In 1994 he was shooting for a sports magazine, national daily newspapers and Associated Press. He joined epa in 1999 covering conflicts in the Middle East, the Balkans, G8 summits, as well as major sports events.
He is also illustrating two projects of the Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism. In 1996 Robert took the first prize for sports photojournalism called Sports Press Association Trophy.

The Southern Carpathian Mountains are part of the Transylvania region and support a rich variety of plants and animals. On these high altitude pasture hills, Romanian farmers are still using the traditional manual way of harvesting hay. There have been increasing efforts at national and European Union level to preserve this low intensity or High Nature Value (HNV) farming which supports the astounding biodiversity in these mountain hay meadows. This fits in with the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity 2011-20 which aims to significantly reduce biodiversity loss worldwide.
