Born in 1962 in Saratov on the Volga, Anatoly has been epa’s correspondent in St. Petersburg since 1997. Since graduating from the Photo faculty at Leningrad's University of the Journalists Union, he has worked as a freelancer for newspapers and magazines and was awarded the Second Prize Singles in the Spot News category of the World Press Photo 1997. Throughout his career, Anatoly has covered many sporting events, breaking news stories, features and disasters both in Russia and further afield, including several Olympic Games, the 2004 Orange Revolution and Maidan in 2013 in Ukraine, and the second Chechen war. In 2008, he set up a photography school in St. Petersburg, where he has helped the next generation of talented photojournalists have successful careers.
