Martin Divisek
Martin Divisek: Martin, epa’s regional correspondent for Czechia and Slovakia, was born in the Czech Republic in 1985. He has been a visual journalist since graduating from the College of Media and Journalism in Prague, beginning his career with the largest Czech daily newspaper Denik. He has also collaborated with the Czech National Ballet for many years. In January 2017, he joined epa images, and became the regional chief two years alter, covering news, sports and entertainment events. Martin has won several awards over the years, including First Prize in the Arts & Culture (Series) category of the Czech Press Photo Awards 2019.

Ukrainian civilians receive weapons training in Czech Republic

The project by CS Solutions Group, which provides Ukrainians with free weapons training, is partly funded by a public collection. The money goes towards ammunition. The rest of the cost goes to the shooting range. The external instructors, who do not charge anything for their work, are also a big help. They started the fundraiser on February 28 and had their first takers as early as March 1. About 120 people have already gone through the training, some have come repeatedly. According to organizer Petra Rupova, there is indeed awareness of the training among Ukrainians in the Czech Republic, as evidenced by the continuing interest. A selection of Chinese ice hockey players have been sent to the Czech Republic in a bid to hone their skills and improve their team performances, as China prepares to host the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022. Coming from a country with little to no hockey culture, the promising youngsters have traveled to the other side of the world as part of an effort to import top level European ice hockey expertise to China so that the Olympic hosts can be competitive when the Games begin. The China Golden Dragons are being trained by Czech coach Jiri Sejba as part of a program led by a team of experts, including NHL legend Jaromir Jagr. The team will compete in the Czech 2. Liga for the 2019/20 season, which runs until January. The group will be put through a specially designed training program to strengthen their individual and team skills at the Rytiri Kladno hockey club, about 30km outside Prague. The Czech Hockey Union has been working with the Chinese Ice Hockey Association for two years to bring Chinese coaches and players to the Czech Republic for training in the summer.
